Maternal & Child Health
Birth & Beyond
Birth and Beyond is a program that provides in-home visits by a nurse within days of mothers and their newborns leaving the hospital.
Because breastfeeding is a unique experience for all mothers and babies, many mothers need additional support and education. If you have breastfeeding questions or concerns, or just want a little support as you figure out your breastfeeding process, our Certified Lactation Counselor is available to assist you.
CARE for Kids
Care for Kids is Iowa’s Medicaid program to promote Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) for children ages birth to 21.
Car Seat Safety
Call to set up an appointment with one of our Certified Car Seat Technicians to learn more about keeping your kids safe in the car.
Health Promotion Visits
Our Health Promotion Visits support the well-being of babies. During these visits, one of our public health nurses will check in with you and your baby to evaluate your baby’s health, provide education and give referrals to helpful community resources.

Lead Poisoning Prevention
Mills County Public Health provides lead testing for children ages 1 through 5, along with lead poisoning prevention education. Case management is also provided for individuals with abnormal lead levels.
Medicaid & Hawk-I Eligibility
If you are pregnant or under 19 years old and need health insurance but aren’t sure what you are eligible for, our Maternal-Child nurse can help you get a jump start on your Medicaid or Hawk-I insurance application.
The NEST Program
The NEST Mission is to improve the health of pregnant women, their babies, and ultimately their families.
Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an early childhood family education program to assist and support families in preparing their children for success in school and beyond, beginning prenatal and extending to age 5.
Throughout your pregnancy, our Maternal-Child Health nurse offers support and education to help you bring a healthy baby into the world. The nurse will visit with you each trimester to talk with you about your pregnancy and teach you about keeping yourself and your baby healthy and safe.
